Where did it start?
Yet again, the BRC Founders have discovered an out-of-the-way memorial for us to visit, and at which to reflect upon those Americans who lost their lives in service to their country. The beginnings of this holiday go back to the era of the Civil War, though there seems to be controversy about the actual origin. More interesting information than I can contribute is at Genealogical.com. In any case, Frank #1 has suggested we visit a monument he found which was erected to show where people met to go join the Civil War. It is a little more than 4 miles from the Common, and rides can be provided back for those who cannot make the round-trip run. https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/fullscreen/2521139581/ There’s a border sign on Glendale Road on the way back.
For those who CAN make the round-trip, if you run about ¾ mile past the monument, you will reach the Outer Ring Border of Groveland.
If you want to run even more than that, Pete is planning to go 22 miles. I know he was trying to build on top of the club run.
A Sincere “Thanks”
Thank you for your kind and generous donations to my team’s fundraising efforts. With your help, we were able to raise over $1300 for The Angel Fund for ALS Research. This year’s race put the total donated by Harpoon to over two million dollars, which makes them (by far) the largest donor to this organization. In addition, the beer was flowing. https://runsignup.com/Race/57350/Donate/GcoSNaDabwv3YTpo
Maybe I need your help to bring back the calendar
Send me your events, and your suggestions for calendar entries. If I’m not too lazy, I will add the significant BRC holidays and start to compile them into something resembling a calendar. Here’s some of what I know is coming up soon:
· BRC Weekly 5K
It just keeps going. Let’s see how many we can get in a row. Come out this week for 645pm run that starts and ends at Rolf’s.
· The BRC Triathlon
The BRC Triathlon is scheduled for Saturday, July 13th. You have seven weeks to get ready. Number 102, Aaron Preston, has announced a call for athletes and volunteers. Reach out to him if you are interested.
Thank You Patriots, for your sacrifice.
