BRC Run – 03/21 – 0645 – Keep Your Distance
What is there to do besides run?
As it currently stands, I think the CDC has recommended avoiding gatherings of 50 or more people. Governor Baker issued an emergency order limiting gatherings to 25 individuals, and I believe the most recent guidance is to avoid groups of 10 or more. Note that this is America. These are basically suggestions.
In light of this trend, I am not going to recommend a route to you this week. Instead, I am going to recommend that you simply run. Go run without watches and phones. Go run by yourself. Go run at a reasonable distance from a good friend. Run with your kids. Run a trail with your dog. Don’t listen to social media garbage (after this garbage, of course). Listen to the birds; listen to the wind; listen to the trees. Listen to your footsteps, and your breathing. Calm your mind.
That being said, it would be nice if “the club” maintained our continuity. If some solo runner, or small group runs from the Common at 6:45, it is still a BRC run. It would be nice if our Saturday club run didn’t go completely virtual. If someone is still planning to run from the Common at 0645, let me know.
Here’s a decent resource for things to do, and not to do while running in the time of the Covid-19. https://www.roadrunnersports.com/blog/running-in-the-time-of-the-coronavirus
The Run to Breakfast™ is NOT coming.
With sit-down restaurants closed for a bit, it would be difficult to have an actual Run to Breakfast next weekend. Take-out while running is kind of messy, and people are really trying to get into the whole social distancing thing. If you’re a Boston Marathoner still working on peaking through the next couple of weeks leading up to Patriots’ Day (or if you’re from Maine, “Patriot’s Day,”) then go get your 20-milers in, and post about it to the club. We’re still rooting for you. I am still considering a substitute marathon, but I might assign everyone their own 2-minute corral. For Social Distance.
Mailing List updates
Now that there is some down time, I can start addressing my backlog of mailing list issues. I will be reaching out to people on the BCC: list to get you registered into our mailing list correctly. I just lose motivation for it mid-week.
