BRC Run – 8/11 – Middleton Border – 11.2 miles

Some Basics

It has occurred to me that with several new members in the club, who are turning out to be regulars, it might be advisable to briefly review how this whole thing “works.” I may have it wrong, but I feel like people (old and new members) may not be recording and reporting the borders for new people. Here's a brief reminder of how we do things.

If I’m wrong, well, then that’s just me.

On Saturday mornings at 6:45 we leave the North Andover Common and run somewhere. Sometimes we go to the borders of the neighboring towns. It is the collective responsibility of the membership to escort new aspirants (RWOBs) to those borders, and back to the Common. Sometimes, it won’t be at a pace you particularly like. That’s OK. We’ll do it anyway. Someone did it for us.

Now, comes the really tricky part. When you have escorted someone to a border and back, it needs to be reported back to Frank and Tom. You can let me know if you like, or if you need help figuring out who that new RWOB was, but you still need to take action. We'll call this follow-through.

I only run at one pace. Slow. I don’t always see who gets to which border, and with whom. Please be responsible for your RWOBs.

Now, RWOBs… You are not shrinking violets, or you wouldn’t be out running long distances like a badass. Make sure that you inform the members you meet and with whom you run that you are achieving a border for the first time. None of us is really aware before the fact. One of those members will then make sure to report it back to Frank and Tom.

Pictures are fun, but not required. Send them in to me, or Paul Geffken and we’ll try to make creative use of them.

Whatever. Can we get to the Run?

The temperature looks promising, but we might get a little wet. (As if that would be any different from the effects of the humidity these past few weeks) I think we can increase our distance a little, and stay comfortable. Border run to Middleton.

But wait, there’s more. A few people are running long this weekend and heading to the Boxford Store along a route that matches our plan for quite a bit. If you need more distance, here’s an 18-miler for you: https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/fullscreen/2190633427/

For a SHORTER route, you can get 5-6 miles if you turn around when Salem St splits into Salem and Boxford.

BRC Ultra Border Crawl

Scheduled. Some people have expressed interest. Some people have rambled on about something or other. We’re doing it. Get ready. October 7 will be here before you know it.

So I jump ship in Hong Kong and I make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas.
