Rational Behavior

Can we talk? Good. This week I bought a new running timepiece. It’s too expensive to call a GPS device or even a watch. Even though I have not one but two perfectly functional Garmin 305s (circa 2006) I felt a compelling need to drop a bundle on what is admittedly a really cool gadget. People smarter than me would call this email something like post-rationalization. But then I thought about it. We are a wacky group with lots of behaviors that require somewhere between a little and a lot of rationalization, if not a damn good explanations. Some examples perhaps. We run in weather that requires good equipment. We run 100 miles to raise money for a good cause. We tend to run around until something breaks. All the while suffering the slings and arrows from friends, family, and coworkers who don’t lace ‘em up. Last night I came to the conclusion that it is all worth it, and much more, then I had a really good night sleep so I can go run on a treadmill set to 15% incline. Just saying. Thanks for listening.

Sure we’ve all been down this road together before, but never with this much variety. It is going to be a beautiful day tomorrow, in other words, not much rationalization needed.
