BRC Run – 8/19 – 0645 – The Dog Days of Summer

18. August 2017 News 0

Well, it’s HOT

I was running in the heat recently, as we all do from time to time, and I started thinking to myself about the “Dog Days of Summer.” Why do we call it that? Luckily, there’s “The Google.”

I found a nice, science-sounding answer on Space.com linking it to a celestial origin: https://www.space.com/8946-dog-days-summer-celestial-origin.html

The Heliacal Rising of Sirius

A little more reading brought me to more questionable websites (no, not THAT kind of questionable website – think mystical) and I read that apparently, the rising of Sirius was of incredible importance to the ancient Egyptians (https://saltformysoul.com/2014/07/22/heliacal-rising-of-sirius/)

This week looks to be Uncomfortable

We may be past the technical definition of the Dog Days, but according to Weather Underground, it looks as though Saturday morning will be very warm and very humid. So, I’ve come full circle to the hot running stuff. Be smart on your run Saturday morning. If you choose to come out with us, we’re going to South Andover: http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/fullscreen/1392536068/
