My Favorite Time of Year

It’s here! It’s here! We’ve all been good this year, watching what we eat and drink, and maintaining good dietary guidelines and blah, blah, blah. Whatever. You know that’s not me. And probably not you, either. Maybe it’s that other guy over there. We won’t talk to him. Regardless, THE season is here. The start of the ultimate gastronomic endurance event is just around the corner, with its end MONTHS away. I give you… Silly Eating Season. Last November I told you the historic significance of this wondrous time. We don’t need to rehash that, but you can check out some of the odd facts about Thanksgiving as we know it. I also hear there is a little local road race happening on Thursday which (most importantly) grants finishers a pie! Now THAT is something for which we should be thankful.

By Special Invitation

You all may or may not be aware that there is a “VIP” hospitality area at the Feaster Five, reserved for some of the local significant poo-bahs, the specially-invited running elite, honored guests, and celebrities. In general, that’s not us. However, what is not-quite-as-well-known is that there is an ultra-exclusive VVIP suite (that’s Very VERY Important Person suite) hidden in the same facility. You (yes YOU) are invited to the BRC Hospitality Room, courtesy of Mr. Tom Papineau (Pap, #39) at his offices near the starting line. That is, you are cordially invited to wait for the start of the Fiesta Five Road Race inside the Coldwell Banker offices in Andover. There is parking available, and I have been told there will be coffee to jump-start your run. The offices will be open starting around 6:30. Thanks, Pap!

Bad Dad Jokes to get the Holiday Started

Q: If you serve turkey on Thanksgiving, what is the appropriate time or holiday to serve “tofurkey” or tofu-turkey?

A: Never. It is never appropriate to impersonate meat. That’s fowl.

Q: If adding bacon to your stuffing doesn’t quite make it “pop,” what else can you suggest?

A: Bacon. Then more bacon. Bacon makes everything better.

Q: Why did the turkey cross the road?

A: This time of year, it wants people to think it’s the chicken.

Q: How can we get rid of an annoying guy who continues to bombard us with mindless drivel he clearly didn’t think all the way through?

A: …

Um, Enough of that. What’s the route?

As we have done often, we will run from the Common to South Andover and run the race course for the Feaster Five. You get extra street cred if you actually run to the finish line. Then double back up Haverhill Street (That’s Rte. 133) and come home.

Actually, I’m thankful for all of you. Thankful you don’t kick me out of this job. And bacon. I’m thankful for bacon, obviously.
